About Howie Rodriguez Miami

Miami resident Howie Rodriguez enjoys spending his free time giving scuba lessons in an area known as the ‘Wreckreational Dive Capital of the Americas.’ In Miami, Howie Rodriguez and his fellow scuba divers have access to reefs starting in just 20 feet of water, as well as wrecks such as 2 M-60 Army tanks starting in 45 feet of water and deeper. Committed to preserving beaches and natural habitats in Miami and all over the world, Howie Rodriguez presides on the boards of environmental organizations such as the Galapagos Conservancy and WildAid. Prior to moving to Miami, Howie Rodriguez spent 19 years operating as Owner and Training Director of the California K-9 Academy in Burbank. Commanding extensive experience in training canines, he conditioned local pets in obedience at a comfortable, homelike facility. He also competed in several worldwide championships, serving as the USA World Team Captain eight times. Recognized by publications such as People, the Los Angeles Times, and The Miami Herald, Howie Rodriguez first began working with dogs as a 10-year-old kennel attendant in New York City, hired by The K-9 Command Dog training center. Before he turned 20, he earned a promotion to Head Trainer and National Director and eventually became a partner in the business. Upon ascending to the position of partner, Howie Rodriguez moved to Kansas City, where he spent a year spearheading efforts to restructure the K-9 Command headquarters. He then expanded the program to Florida, opening two kennels under the name of Continental K-9 Academy and establishing a relationship with the Town of Oakland Police Department. Functioning as the police department’s Canine Training Coordinator, he supplied it with police dogs and trained the canines in activities such as wind scent discrimination, bomb detection, building search and seizure, obedience, protection, and agility.
